A/C Evaporator Drain
I took apart the Driver side Center console panel (Velour cover). This allows side access to the Climate Control temp selector wheel, which I took apart to repair. While there fiddling with the Climate Control, I notices that the left side A/C evaporator drain hose is crumbling . It is a sophisticated foam covered (around a spring coil) type deal. It is simply a drain - so my question is whether this hose can just be replaced with a simple rubber hose, or is there a good German engineered reason to pay for the real replacement ?
Thanks. 1987 300SE Euro |
when I did the evap core on my 94 E420 I used rubber hoses. those foam/spring things are an abortion of reason.
which reminds me, I need to replace the same exact hose you're talking about in my other 420. |
Plain rubber hose. I used to know the size, but I forgot. :) That thar fancy spring thang is insulated to prevent condensation from forming on the outside. The water exiting the drain is quite cold.

Rubber Hose is the way I will go. I suspected a condensation issue in the construction and look of the hose. Your reply gave me confirmation. Thanks
