Gear indicator out, no reverse lights, BAS/ESP, and wont shift out of first!
2000 C230K, Started the car, put it in drive, noticed the gear indicator was just a completely colored in... No "d" indicated. No gears showup including Reverse. No reverse lights.... and once I put it into drive I cant put it in park. Have to turn the car off to move the selector back to park.
I dont think its the brake sensor since the brake lights still work. BAS/ESP and check engine light was on, but i reset. They have not reappeared but the problem remains. Also, if driven, the car will not shift out of first gear to second...... What gives? Sean |
brake lamp switch
when you say brake sensor do you mean the brake lamp switch? the lights can work, but the sensor still be bad, on the sensor your car has are two seperate plugs, one for brake lights and one for can communication, i am not saying that is your problem, but due to the high rate of the stop lamp switches failing it is a good place to start

is the neutral/reverse lockout switch on the tranny itself a possibilty as well?

Was any liquid spilled on the console area?? IF so then the shifter is the problem!
Need to scan codes from traction & transmission computers! |

Ill have to check with the ppl driving the car, but i do see some sort of residue around the shifter. But its been there for a month, so Im not sure why it would just act up now. What kinda replacement cost are we lookin at if there was liquid spilled? Does the whole shifter have to be replaced? Do you work in ATL at all or are you retired? Just noticed u are not too far away from me :) Sean |
Lucky Lucky found a 130 buck shifter assembly on ebay took out my old one today, looks like some fluid got in there, hopefully that will solve the problem!
