This seems like an unusually large amount of problems
i've had my 2000 e320 for 2 years. bought with 20,000 miles, now has 58,000 miles. replaced a catalytic convertor, clock spring, shift interlock, all at different times. today, took the car in and the other convertor is bad plus 2 oxygen sensors. thank goodness all of this has been under warranty. also, they told me i need to have my axle seals replaced for $600. im thinking i better sell before something really happens. what do y'all think?

that's a pretty good vehicle. The cats are a common fault (with the 112 engine) with high mileage- the updated ones seem to being doing really well and I don't know of any that needed to be replaced yet.

58,000 is "high miles"?
yikes, I'd hate to know what 150k is called. |

Is it possible that the car had more than 20,000 when you bought it..Did you buy it at a Benz dealer or private sale or independent lot...Having been in a car related field I know there is mileage turnback done on lots of vehicles and there are many experts who do this and earn big bucks doing it. Just a thought...

this is typical
The year 2000 marked a severe reliability dip in the e-class especially. Consumer Reports this year said that model has reported some of the highest problem rates than most cars including japanese and american models.
My mother in law bought a 99 e-class, had to replaced struts at 30,000 miles, a whole window unit, o2 sensors. it just didn't seem right. I thought she was being taken for a ride, but apparantly more of these stories are popping up. I was planning on upgrading to a more modern benz, but i have changed my mind. nothing past 96. However, the audi's have an excellent relaibility rating. so perhaps next will be a 2000+ audi.
