reinstallation of hood support spring, 230sl
Got my 230sl back from bare metal paint job. Looks great, but the shop did not know how to reinstall the hood spring...I think. It no longer supports the hood properly, not enough tension. I removed it, but it only wants to go back one way, and that is the easy way, with no pre loading. Am I doing something wrong?

Hood torsion rod reinstall
"When properly replaced you will have to "wind" the torsion bar back towards the rear of the car and "hook" it using a small "s" hook through that small square hole on the hood and passed around the torsion bar. You will then be able to put the hood back in place. Once it is in place and the hinges tightened down, you can carefully release the bar from the "s" hook and gently guide it into the plastic follower next to the battery."
Sounds simple...not. Does anyone know if this can be accomplished with the hood installed, or must I remove it (again). Thanks for your help. |
That post is for if you are removing hood .. it just has you hook the spring in the hole with an S hook so when you put hood back on , it is in the loaded position.
Here is on for spring orientation http://pagoda113.com/eve/ubb.x?a=search&reqWords=hood+spring&use_forum_scope=on&forum_scope=2076001521 |
Thanks, that works.
Thanks much for the advice, it works! Just don't try it without removing the hood, not enough clearance to wind the torsion bar counterclockwise once it has been installed.
