anybody bought an interstate?
well it's time for me to breakdown and but a new battery.from what i can recall from this forum , the interstates are a good(if not better) replacement to the mercedes oe's.has anyone bought the mtp-93? i was wondering if it has feet on the side for the tray clamp? also is it a perfect fit into the battery tray?the interstate site does not give specs and so i;m looking for any info possible.
thankyou :) |
I am sorry, I can't answer your specific questions...but both of our Mercedes have them... seem to be good batteries... mine survived a bad voltage regulator... I was charging it every night for a week, until I replaced the regulator..

All three of mine have an Interstate...each replaced the OEM. They do have the "skirts" on the bottom sides of the case to anchor them to the battery tray...just make sure you get the correct group and size (the R129 has a weird skinny one to fit in the fenderwell recess in the rear).
Don't recall the product number(s) though, but they seem to do a fine job. They don't get tested by harsh winters down here, but heat can take down lesser batteries... |
well i have a Die Hard couldnt ask 4 better one

I've been told by more than one Mercedes mechanic that Interstate actually makes Mercedes batteries.
One dealer tech even told me that at Interstate truck regularly delivers their batteries with the Mercedes Benz label on them. |
I've had the same interstate in my SE for about 8 years now. Must be a decent battery.
This post will probably kill it though. |
The 300E had an Interstate in it when I got it. It lasted 58 months. And I know for a fact my dad drained it in his parking garage at least twice before I aquired the car from him (I jumped him both times). I replaced it last winter with an Interstate.

Are the Interstate batteries better than the Optima batteries?
I've heard of some people using marine batteries as well. |
i think you're right sugi.....
i think i recall the same association and that's probably why i thought about going with the interstate.i called by benz dealer and they wanted $60.00 more for a battery for the same application!
ocean:i had thought about optima's but if you've seen the configuration of them you might think twice for MY application.the optima's have a good reputatation but they seem to be rather tall and my battery fits inside a well and has a cover over it. :hair: |
I just installed an MTP-93 in a '99 ML 430. The battery meausres 14 3/8 L and 6 7/8 W and H. The interstate website does have specs on all their batteries, but you need to dig to get to it. However, the site indicates the MTP-93 is 7 1/5 (?) tall. The dealer sheets show it as it is @ 6 7/8 tall, which is accurate. The feet on the battery are the same as the MBZ battery.

thanks a bunch , jim! i was worried that i'd get the battery home and find out that one of the dimensions was way out of whack! d'oh!! where about on the site did you find the specs?

Interstate actually sells the Optima brand...
i'm not sure what you're trying to say but costco also sells optma. |
I recently bought a Douglas Battery. Apparently they produce batteries for MB. Battery was $75 vs. $180 for the 'official' MB battery.

I bought an OE battery for $115 and am very happy with it. I don't know who makes them but it has a made in Spain sticker on it. My diesel cranked over fast as can be this winter on those 0 degree nights. I like Interstate as well, but for the extra $20 I am a sucker for OE stuff.
I have another OE battery that I got out of my parts car, it was stone dead when I got it but now comes right up and holds a charge. It is currantly running a 30lb Minn Kota trolling motor and lasts all day. |
