W210 Stuck sunroof

Stuck sunroof!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello
The sunroof stuck on my 97 E420 (closed, rear side just below roof level) As i was reading through the threads i figured that i'll have to force the roof open somehow to see whats wrong .The emergency opener didnt work .It gets really tight and i am affraid that i'm going to ruin some gears in the motor.I am just wondering ,if i force the roof open by hands, can i ruin anything else?
Thanks for any respons.!!

The likely scenario is your cables are wadded up in the rear track and last time the cables wadded like that on me I enjoyed the many hours it took to remove the entire roof assembly including the sunroof. If you can somehow pull the rear corner of the interior down to verify and then maybe clip the cables and push the assembly from the rear until you can open it far enough to remove the sunroof interior panel, that would be ideal, but I'm throwing out ideas not laden with the blessing of experience, I just know that when the cables come off the track so to speak, and bend, it's not too likely you're going to get the roof open by manually cranking

stuck sunroof

same thing happened to me my mother pulled herself up onto the seat by
using the open roof as a lever!
so it shut then crunched to a stop with left side down .
my mechanic mate at work used the tool to shut it but it was very tight.
had to take screws out of the assembly then shut roof and put screws back in to hold it shut. until i have saved up some money to get it fixed properly!

Sunroof stuck

The issue is most likely the cable. I repaired my sunroof after finding the dealer estimate over $1000. Local repair shops would not touch it. If you can get the sunroof open enough to remove the interior panel you can disconnect the sunroof from the cable. Then you can determine the source of the problem. There are many threads here which can provide details. Good Luck.

I went through the same thing.Dealer over $1000,my mechanich wouldnt want to touch it.So an expert body shop is dealing with it as we speak.I'll let you know how it went.
