Strange clicking noise from rear driverside wheel
Hey All,
On my 1991 500SL, I hear this clicking noise that seems to be coming from the driverside rear wheel. The pattern of the click is directly related to speed, and it seems to happen when it is cold, and eventually goes away. Its wierd, cuase sometimes if I hit a speed bump or something, that will cause it go away for awhile. When I back up I can hear it as well. Any thoughts?? Thanks all in advance! |
Emerg brake problem maybe? Does the emerg brake apply properly?

wheels
do you have factory or aftermarket wheels? i have seen some wheel bolts that when used with aftermarket wheels will protrude too far into the emergency brake area, and cause a similar condition, if the bolts are too long i have seen them cause severe damage to the E-brake components.

Have you checked to see if all your lugnuts are tight?
|
OK, this might be obvious, but is there a rock lodged in the tread?
Best Regards, Jim |
Well I just replaced the tires, and the problem was there before, and it still continues, so I dont think its just an issue of the lugnuts
In terms of a rock, maybe lodged in there, I'm not sure, but this has been going on and off for months. |
Gettin warmer!
I've found that the noise is directly related to the e-brake.
If I hear the noise, I can set the brake really hard, release it, and quite reliably it goes away. Interesting.... |
Drew, check that the emergency brake shoes and linkage are adjusted properly and that the linkage is lubricated. The emegency brake may not be completely releasing on that wheel causing the noise.
