Splice or replace fuel lines
Hi,
I have a 1993 300e. Along the underbody on the driver side, there are 4 lines. Can someone confirm that the left most line is the brake line and the 3 other lines to the right of it are fuel lines. Anyone know what the differences are between the 3 lines. Since I see alot of rust on the 3 fuel lines, would it be recommended to just cut out and splice the rusted portion and attach the new lines with stainless steel hose clamps and fuel injection hose or should I just bite the bullet and replace the fuel lines end to end. I have been getting about 15 mpg with AC on in city driving. Is this normal? I have replaced the spark plugs and O2 sensor. Should I change the air filter? Would a problem in the fuel lines cause low mileage? Thanks, Bolon |
I don't think that milage is that low, I thought that the EPA sticker said 17/27 or so for city/highway on the 300e

Just hose them down with some rust preventive juice. If you can't tell the difference between fuel lines & brake lines, you have no business messing with them.

Norm's right; you are getting into deep water if you can't tell one from the other. The fuel line runs to the fuel pump; the brake lines to the brakes. Neither should be messed with by patching. In the event you patched a brake line with a hose suitable for fuel, the line would at least bulge, if not burst when you applied the brakes.
Please let an expert look at your 'corroded' lines, and take it from there. There is a lot of great advice on this forum; keep in touch. regards, Mark |
