Oil pressure problem on 94 E320.
My oil pressure reads about 1 3/4 when at idle and as soon as you accelerate the pressure goes up to the full 3. I have been told that it's normal it's a little lower at idle, but I have also been told that it should always be a 3. Can anyone confirm this? From doing a search it appears that it could be either the oil pressure sensor or the oil pump. Is there anyway to know which could be the problem? Btw: My car is a w124 94 E320.

Drive it - what you have described is perfectly normal.
It should drop to between 1 and 2 bar when hot at idle and go to 3 whenever you have your foot in the gas. |
Agree - sounds normal. Your owner's manual should tell you exactly what to expect. If/when it becomes abnormal it's almost always a bad sending unit - about $30 or $40.

Is not 30 or 40 is $74 prices have gone to the roof those days

It depends on whether you get the VDO(oem) unit $70+
or the HamburgTech aftermarket unit $30+. The owner's manual says 0.3 bar is Acceptable at idle.Unfortunately,my car ' oil pressure drops to zero at hot idle,(but peaks at 3 bar during hwy)This I was advised by a MB mechanic to leave alone and do nothing for 1 year so far. I've got the Hamburgtech unit but have not bothered to install it yet. |
never put aftermarket junk on my benz. It pays on long run.
If I will put aftermarket parts on my car, by 300K miles I will have a FORD.... |
