r230 shift lever stuck in park

Hi all, I'm on vacation more than 2 hours distance from nearest dealership who's first appointment available 1 week out.

I've a problem with my '03 not shifting out of park 1/3 of the time nearly always after has been driven (hot) or while driving (such as a bank drive thru window) by pushing up-right-over-down with MUCH force, hitting towards the right and or cursing.

I spoke with a service tech who said it was most likely the brake pedal's brakelight switch not sending a signal to the shifter's release solenoid but I tested afterwards and brake lights worked flawlessly but shifter not budging when testing both at same time.

Any ideas to help me when I'm in one of those embarrassing shifting situations?

Vlad.

Was there any liquids spilled on the gearshift area?? The shifter IS a computer!

No fluids on garage floor.

Yesterday for the first time, shifter was very stiff from Drive up into Reverse. But one time only.

I re-read your question and understand fully, I did not spill any drinks in the car.

I guess this means you could be in trouble if it rains while parked with the top down, too?
