ASR Problem "HELP"
I have a 1993 500 SL that often gives the ASR light indication, don't really understand what this is. If I turn the car off and restart it, it usally goes off. But now it staying on, please advise if you know what my problem is. When the light is on the car has no power.
Thanks, Dale |
Try to doing a search on the topic "ASR light" - you will find a lot of helpful threads. There's a number of things it could be ranging from inexpensive to quite expensive. You should also try to get the ASR fault codes read.

I have them if you get to that point. Does the Cruise work? |
asr from alans v12
I have a 600sl which had a asr problem, took months to find out what it was. Finally discovered it was a burnt out wiring loom which goes to one of the accuators. Have a look at that, there is a black cover you need to take of first.

ASR problem
Hello.. I had my ASR and ABS light to come on.. my 1995 E420 Special Edition I tried everything to figure it out.. I replace my Stop Light Switch and it fixed the problem..
This was cheap.. under 20.00 and I installed it myself in under an hour.. the hard part was to get to the switch.. I'd give this a try... |
thats great for you but before Dale93500SL spends the money on a stop lamp switch he should read the codes as Arthur suggested from the 38 pin connector
|
As fas as I know on a 93SL the system is an ASR I, and doesn't have fault code storage. Cis right? Actuator on the front of the engine? If so I'm pretty sure it's ASR I. Fault memory was phased in for ASR II. ASR I cars are the bane of an indie tech because most diagnosis is done with a break-out box and a hefty test procedure.

According to AllData for the 93 500SL pin 6 is for ABS/ASR (on the 38 pin connector) - it also references pin 8 the Base Module.
I have never tried to read codes on that car/system so I can't comment any first hand experience. I would give it a try to see what, if any, codes come up. |
The thing about that..... is that a 93 does not have a 38 pin connector:eek: It has a 16 pin test connector for which pin 6 is for the AB (I think) Like I said before the early ASR I cars are an awful bunch to work on. I can only wish you good luck b/c you're gonna need that and more.
