Propellor Shaft Sleeve Nut Size?
Does anyone know the driveshaft sleeve nut size on an 86 300E? And is it just one nut or is there a locking nut as well? If so, same size or different size? Is the nut in a gap wide enough to use a crescent wrench if I can't find the proper size open-end? The car is at a remote location and I need to know before I make the trip. Also, can the support bearing be removed and replaced without a special puller/installer?
Thanks, Gary |

I use a 15" adjustable wrench on this nut.

I use a pair of channel lockes on this nut. The bearing can usually be pulled with a vise and soft mallet assuming you are going to replace the bearing. To press a new one on use a piece of pipe that just fits over the spline shaft, such that you will only be driving on the inner race.

46mm on the nut and 41mm on the driveshaft. I used a two arms puller for the center bearing. It came out easily, and I guess (as others posted) you can do it with a hammer as well.
