Hello Fellow MB owners... I have a 92 400E. When I turn on the AC on a hot day and it's been running awhile, OR if it rains really hard, there is a small but significant water leak by the passenger's side floormat. In otherwords, it looks like a drain or something is plugged causing it to drip, drip, drip onto the upper right/center of the floormat and it looks like it's comming from up under the dash somewhere. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and how I can fix this??? Thanks millions... Peter

| Where exactly is it leaking? Is it coming straight from the front of the car or from the side? There are two possible problems. If it is coming from the front I would check the drain located on each corner of the hood, next to the hinges. Also, check behind the battery for broken seals or signs of rust. If it is coming from the side (center console), then it might be your AC drain. You need to take out the side carpet attached to the center console and check the drain. You should be able to see it. Approximately same height as the ashtray, straight behind it. There are two drains one on the driver's side and one on the passenger. Vin [Edited by vinamg on 01-17-2001 at 09:17 PM] |

You can also look from under the car. The AC drains are located on each side of the transmission tunnel. A properly working AC will have water on the ground coming from these drains...

It's not uncommon for A/C condensation drains to clog. Get under the car with a high tech tool such as a short piece of baling wire ( for city folks, a coat hanger will provide a low tech substitute) and carefully put the wire through the drain. Good luck, |

Peter, Be careful the tubes, by the console, are made of some type of cheap foam.
