I need massive help with.....

I just got new tires on my car so I don't know if they are effecting this but at certain speeds my steering wheel starts to shake, at times my car vibrates a little and jumps up and down. This is on a 82 300sd.

Sounds like poor tire balancing to me. How'd it ride before the new tires?

it ran well, it felt needed to be aligned with the old set of tires. i didnt' do it yet because i want to put larger rims on it but a lot of people say since it's a classic mercedes it should stay that way. do you know what the largest size is that i can put on it without messing up the tranny?

What is "massive help" ?

82benzo 07-14-2005 12:09 PM

because i don't know if this is a small problem that can cause a large problem and cause a accident. I dont' know about cars so since it does this crazy shaking i don't know if it means something is going to break and then i go flying into another car

First things first

Make sure the lug nuts holding the tire on are tight. It's not too uncommon for the tire-shop boys to miss a tire.

Sounds like your car is equiped with hydraulics. That would explain your desire for big rims.

Take it to the dealer and have them do an alignment and balance job. It's expensive, but I've never had another shop do it right.

Forget big rims, unless you are going for the high-schooler/wannabe rapper look.

Better yet. Losen all the lug bolts and retorque with a torque wrench because they are probably all to tight. Also check the steering damper.
