What The Hell Did I Do???
OK,this is bizzarre.
My '98 E300 turbo diesel would have intermittent AC problems, the more the AC was used, the less the blower would put out, although indicating differently.Sometimes when the car was hot the blower would not work at all.
In a fit of curiosity and desperation I searched the archives intent upon finding the problem.
AH,HA,I thought, bad blower regulator.
I removed the lower panel, pulled the torx screws holding the blower cover and removed the blower motor & regulator, hooked up my VOM and saw that the appropriate voltages were indeed reaching the motor, despite it's failure to respond.
I removed the regulator {a Behr,by the way, possibly a replacement} Saw there was no dielectric grease under it,grabbed some from my shop, applied it liberally and reinstalled everything,I also lubed the motor bearings.
The AC works now under all conditions, automatically and manually, whether this was due to the dieletric greasing or simply removing and replacing the wire connectors is a moot question.
