CA Smog check results....
So my car (1990 2.6 manual) passed today, but I noticed 2 interesting things on the results page:
1 - I barely passed the HC @ 15mph; only 2 ppm below the max. FYI: HC @ 25 mph was 51ppm, max was 88, ave was 20. Everything else passed with ease. I'm guessing it's still running a bit rich. 2 - EGR Functional test was Not Applicable....does that mean they only do a visual check on the EGR? |
Hi,
My 190E 2.6 manual 1990 had similar results. As long as the car pass I really don't care much about it. AND Congrats with your car. 2.6 manuals are rear collections. There are not many around. So far I know only 2 persons owns in CA, You and me :) |
It's not running rich!!! Your results are typical because of catalyst cool down.
Look at the following thread and the thread it refers to. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?p=833484#post833484 Duke |
dead cat
Hi,
Your cat performance is low. This can be fixed by replacing your cat. The EGR if inspected properly is connected to a hand vacuum pump and checked for leaks. When they say N/A it often means they didn't check it or that it is solenoid activated and they didn't energize it. Cheers, Yoko |
His calalyst is probably degraded, but certainly does not need replacement. Read the links I posted an get educated about emission control systems and technology.

Thanks for the info & link, everyone. I have some justification to replace my cat in the near future :D
As an aside, I know that there were at least 2 other 2.6 5-speeds running around in Northern CA......one was in San Jose, the other was somewhere like Vallejo. And, don't forget Duke has a 2.6 5-speed as well. |
