Quick questions
On the middle of the dashboard of my "new" E320, close to the glass, there is a small plastic triangle.
I figure it is some kind of a sensor. but for what? The owner's manual seems to be silent on the issue. Another question. Next to the fuel gauge there is a small amber "light." this is not the "low fuel/reserve" indicator at the empty area of the fuel gauge. Thisis closer to the center and it is a small "dot." Any idea of what these two items may be? Thanks. |
can you take a picture of the things you're talking about it?

The first image is a long view of dashboard. Second image is a close-up of the plastic "thing." The third image shows the amber "dot" right below the pivot point of the fuel gauge. And yes, it is 94 degrees and yes it is now 6:25 p.m. |
In the middle of you dash board next to the glass, I believe that is the sun sensor. It used by the climate control system. Not sure on the cluster light.

My old Caddy Seville had the automatic headlights, so it had a sensor onthe dashboard to monitor sunlight/outside lighting. I think it may be the outside temp sensor (maybe???). Or maybe it is a "secret" antenna so that M-B knows where we all are at all times. Some sort of Teutonic device to conquer the world... |
The climate control system uses the sun sensor.

sun and light sensor
Hi Prior post was correct the sensor on the dash is a sun sensor used by the climate control ,The inst cluster amber dot is a light sensor used for auto interior lighting if you have the option look at the inst lights next time you pull into the garage or go thru a tunnel, with the light switch in auto.joeym
