AT dipstick lengths
I've purchased a shop automatic transmission dipstick from importech.com. It is to long for either of my cars; 97 C280 and 2000 E 430. Does anybody have a chart giving the dipstick lengths for these cars?

Its a ATF tube tool, not an actual dipstick. Check out http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/Trans7226Fluid I think you'll see that what you are describing is normal. John |
click on: http://market.autopartsfair.com
inventory search 1.-vehicle info make: MB 2.-part info category:transmission & related parts name: AT dipstick 3.-peruse 131 products. Note "Workshop Version" under "Remarks". good luck, :sun_smile |
Distance to push AT dipstick in, checking fluid level
Thanks, One more comment. Do you stick the shop dipstick in until it touches the bottom of the pan? I assume this is correct since your checking procedure stated stick it in and about 8" will be hanging out the tube?

Stick the dipstick tool in till it hits the bottom of the pan.
Fluid level is measured from the bottom up. REMEMBER >> fluid temp is VERY critical in order to ascertain accurate fluid level. In a perfec world > fluid is measured when it is at 80C. [that's what it says on the dipstick tool] I used a infrared thermometer to get a pretty good ballpark temp of the fluid... run the car > get fluid hot > "ping" the tranny pan [fluid inside the pan should be same temp of the pan] ... I think the hottest I could get the fluid was 78C >> so I filled short of full mark |
