Electrical glitches
 

Is it just me ? ---or do all Mercedes seem to have Electrical glitches-- one day the cruise control works --the next it won`t. no blown fuses --- the heater works only when " it wants to" --the fuel gauge pulsates sometimes--- whats up with that?--- I have only owned 2 German made cars -- The 1st was a V.W. Quantum and it was constantly giving me problems with the elec. system --- never anything serious but all very annoying--- I THOUGHT THE GERMANS WERE SUPPOSED TO BE SUCH GREAT ENGINEERS! --- PERSONALLY I dont see it--- take a look at their fuses and tell me what they were thinking when they set that up? --- Bosh seems to be almost as bad (if not worse) than the old " Prince of Darkness" LUCAS ELEC.-
Really not a ? but if any one has some suggetions I would be glad to hear them.n Sign me ---not impressed with German Engineering--- I thought ford were a pain in the ass untill I bought a M.B.

The issues with th VW don't suprise me at all. However Mercedes doens't seem to have a history of electrical issues except a bad run of wire harnesses that had bad insulation. Nothing like a BMW wiring nightmare!

Any way Merc systems may be a bit involved and sometime complacated.
there systems have a lot of protection such as relays for most everything meaning most of the wires have low curent and just the relay to the component hast higher curent. The problems you mentioned are likely to be caused by the relay itself sense its intermitant. and the heat thing well the climacontrol assembly thats another mater.

Most cars 20+ years old are now in the junk yards(over 50%)! BY USA stats, cars live on an average of 15 years! IF you are driving a 23-24 year old car then I would imagine that many(most) items are(have) worn out by now!

What problem(s) are you having???

There are several mid-80's MB's in my family & we rarely have ANY electrical problems!


IN Japan they try to replace cars every 7 years & the tax rate goes UP on older cars to get them OFF of the roads!

I disagree with theairboys' statement about MBs' history of electrical issues. Modern MBs' have a huge number of "glitches" affecting everything from the 722.9 transmission to navigation systems. In many cases the culprit is software. Of course there are many hardware issues as well. Crankshaft/camshaft position sensors regularly fail in addition to various control modules. It's no small wonder that MB service departments are always busy!

Watch your battery voltage as well. If low, it could cause gremlins to appear.
