1988 300SE Low Side Valve Location

I want to add a little bit of r134 to my converted system. I have an understanding of what needs to be done, but I am wondering exactly where is the low side valve? Is it right inside the grille when the hood is opened? I know its between the evap and and compressor, but I want to make sure this is the right valve.

Try again

Your low side fitting will be on the drivers side between the dryer(40 oz size black container with site glass on top, hi and low pressure switches connected to it) and the expansion valve. Should be very easy to see, looking from front of engine right side just above fender well.

I would not add freon without checking pressures as you may add too much and blow a seal.... Even if you don't blow a seal your AC will not work well with too much freon as well as with too little.

You need to monitor the high side as well. It is located drivers side in front just under the radiator hose about 12".

Just hooking up gauges will tell you a lot, also make sure your aux fan is coming on.

Good luck

Suction Side of AC Comp

The suction schrader valve is pointing straight up on a line just forward of the brake booster. As someone else said, you should use gauges. The valve out in front to the left of the radiator is on the discharge side of the comp. Don't connect a refrig. can to high pressure. It could blow up in your hand. When adding refrig. be sure that the ambient is > 80 deg. If it is in the 90s, I would pull the condenser fan plug off the head sensor to cause the fan to run during charging.
