Smog exempt from which year

Hi,
Everytime I have to take my 190E 2.6 1990 for a smog test in California my heart start racing..... but fortunately untill now it passed without problem. I was wondering which is the last year that the car get smog exempt? Which year in future I shall get my golden certificate that my 190 E will not require any more smog test? Is this applicable to all benz models?
I am also planning to buy a S320 1997-1999.
Thanks,
Ejaz.

Last year your legislature passed AB2683 and Schwarzenegger signed it into law. AB2683 eliminated the "30 year rolling exemption" at the 1975 model year. All 1976 and up model light duty vehicles (other than diesel) will have to be tested every two years in perpetuity unless future legislation restores some kind of exemption.

My Cosworth Vega is a 1976, so you can imagine how I feel about this!

Remember this the next time you go to the polls. You can go to www.assembly.ca.gov , look up AB 2683 and see how your solons voted in both the assembly and senate. (Hint: The vote was nearly split right along party lines with only a few exceptions.)

Before you submit your car for emission testing, suggest you peruse the following thread and the threads it refers to. Pay particular attention to the "conditioning" discussion, and make sure you have the correct NON-RESISTOR Bosch H9DC spark plugs installed.
