trans is leaking pretty badly

I just finished the head gasket job. while the car was raised I notice a lot of trans fluid drip dropping. I did some cleaning up and found the fluid leaking from above the transmission pan on the passenger side. seems like its coming from above the pan seal in a few places. anybody else have this problem?

its on there. the exhaust and intake manifolds are on too. I have not turned it on yet due to a slight problem. you know how there is a coolant hose from the head to the water pump right up front? I did not put it on when I lowered the head in place and theres no way to get it in there without removing either the head or water pump. what a odd design. I guess I'm taking out the water pump. I was on here looking at the pump design as to figure out where all the bolts are. I like how the "mercedes tech" who worked on this car before used gobs of rtv to seal up everything leaking. I have the priviledge of undoing all his work and years of neglect and dirt. how is yours running blue ranger?

That sucks.

running great

mines running great... i noticed that 2 inches of hose
when i was putting the head on so i lifted the head up and
slid it on...

i dont think you would have to totally remove the water pump just about 2
inches...

goosh that is one of those little details that kill you....

if i remember ther is about 1/4 or 1/2 inch of room between them..

i would get the smallest piece of hose i could find and i would strech it
and see if i could slide it between...i know it sounds stupid but i would really try something.. :sun_smile

was contemplating taking a sawzall to the water outlet coming out of the head, it is so long. although prob not the best idea, it does improve on the design a bit. I wonder what the engineering logic behind that tiny piece of hose was. the old one is kinda corroded anyways.

Trans Leak 300e

If you overfill the trans, which is easy to do, it will leak around the pan gasket. The access plates for the band pistons can also leak. You can replace the o rings on these (round plates above the pan flange).

Tranny pan gaskets also leak if overtightened. No more than about 6-8 lbs. of torque on the tranny pan bolts. Gasket may simply be worn as well.

Also consider Lenny's comment. Test tranny fluid level on flat surface with motor running AFTER you drive it at least 20 miles. It takes a good bit of driving to warm up tarnny fluid sufficiently to test it's level.

My 2 cents.

sawzall

i think the sawall is a good idea... i would take a little off both sides
until i could get the hose on...
\\thats sad isnt it//
