300E Gas Mileage?
I have a 91 300E 4Matic. 6Cyl petrol. It's cold up here in MN. I'm getting about 14.5 miles to the gallon. The specs I have read say I should be getting 16.5 MPG. Since buying the car I have put new O.E.M (Bosch/MB) wires, plugs, Distributor Cap and Rotor. I use 90 or 92 Octane gas. What should one expect as far as Gas Milaege with a 300E 4Matic (AWD)?????? Other wise it appears to run great. Any recommendation welcomed.....
It appears from the GAS mileage post I (thanks to all) I found that 4matics get 2-3 MPG less and the cold grabs a few MPGS along with slow in traffic driving. Along, with having fun 4 wheeling through adverse snowy conditions. My mileage still is on the low side of the post I've seen. Last edited by Stubman; 02-04-2004 at 02:59 PM. |

Actual mileage is highly dependent on driving conditions, and mileage will be lower in very cold weather due to longer warm up time and more rolling resistance from very cold tires, cold transmission and axle oils, and driving in slush and snow. This is especially true if your average trip length is no more than 5 miles, because the engine and drivetrain barely gets to operating temperature, and the engine operates most of the trip with cold enrichment.

My 90 300E used to do 12mpg when I bought it. After fixing vacuum leaks, adjusting mixture, changing spark plugs, cap and rotor, airflow plate pot, car gets around 16 to 18mpg city/highway. My car is not 4matic though.
