'97 E300 - Infrared Sensor Troubles [driver door handle]

The infrared sensor on my driver-side door works intermitently. The green LED actually looks a lot less green. Is there anyway to clean, replace or seal this "assembly". Maybe the LED/sensor can be replaced?

I took a closer look to it and the plastic protecting the LED's has cracked.... Can just cover be replaced?

I know this is from a long time ago, but I am having the same problem. Anyone have a resolution other than replacing the receiver in door for 300.00??

Have you tried a fresh battery in the remote and confirmed the problem does not originate there?

You can test that by attempting to open/close the windows while standing at the other door.

My driver's side (your passenger side) hasn't worked since I got it, but no fecking way am I paying for a new one. I'll attempt repair first.

Its a brand new OE IR remote, does the same thing with my old remote. Just started acting up last week. Trunk, and mirror receiver work fine. Door will work on occasion.

My response was really aimed toward post #1. If the battery is low on juice it may not be capable of communicating sufficiently with the door to activate the lock.

Replacing it is a cheap first step.
