stalling problem partly solved
some of you may remember my stalling '87 300e. 1/3 of the problem is now fixed. it no longer has a fluctuation at idle thanks to a new metering housing. it still stalls over half the time at warm startup unless i depress the gas pedal, which i can live with. today it stalled while driving for the first time since the repair, and this is the one that bothers me. first i lose power steering, etc. with the engine still running and after a couple of seconds the engine cuts out, too. the car then requires a minute or more before it will restart. it will crank, but won't start. could this be the ovp or fuel pump relay? must i have a tech look at it again or can i tell from the behavior which is the culprit? i am not the most technically inclined person, but i have a decent intuition and limited funds..

Your OVP may be causing this. It was in my case. Can't say about yours. Remove it, then shake it. If you hear rattling, replace it. This is not a conclusive test for OVP functionality, but it's good for a start.
This device provides power to the idle control circuit. It has other responsibilities; I'm just trying to show it's relevance in this case.
