EXTREMELY URGENT, car in New Orleans need to get it out of here ASAP
dear all any help is appreciated.
My car will not charge the battery, so I changed the volatge regulator. However I still get no battery light when I turn ignition to position 2 (the one before cranking engine). I recharged the battery and I am getting 13.80 Volts at 2000 rpm at the battery terminals. Also when I droive it around the alarm will start going off and lock all the doors so I have to pull over and insert key in the passanger door to disangage alarm. Any ideas? Please I need to get out of New Orleans before this monster hurricane gets here. thanks, ACM |
If you are getting 13.8v at the battery, it is being charged.

is there any way that I can directly plug a multimeter into the back of the altenator and see if I get charge?
Also, how do I disable the factory alram? is there a fuse or a relay that I can just take out until I get back and fix it? thanks ACM |
No need to check at the alternator if the battery is showing 13.8 while running. If it shows 13.8v with the engine off I'd get a new multimeter. I suppose that you could get a battery to sustain 13.8v for a breif period right after a hard charging. If you get 13.8 from the battery without running, turn the headlights on till the voltage drops to 12.5v or so when the lights are turned off and start the engine and try again.
Unplug the controller to disable the alarm, I don't remember where it is on 124. I'm sure it is in the archives. |
Disengaging the alarm.
On my '86 300E, the alarm modue was under the passenger floor mat. I needed to remove both the flat part and the part which slopes upward. The module can be disconnected by unplugging the connector on its side. I disconnected mine because humidity caused false triggers.
Hope you can get the car out in time. Don't put yourself at risk, you can always get a new car. That is one scary storm. |
It's under the passanger side floor mat next to the SRS box with the red plug. Don't touch this one! The Alarm module usually says Bekker on it because it's hooked up to the radio.
