GUAGES Crazy Help
 
83 300sd has been sitting many months charged battery car started fine and is running well except the instrument cluster is going crazy gauges jumping all over the place.
What mite be causing this?

prob ground issues
 
they act like that when the ground is weak.

where is the ground located I need to fix?

i dont know where to tell you to look.

some one will chime in though.

i think it must be in the wiring that attaches to the instrument cluster. the cluster itself is isolated so it cant be grounding through that. if you look at the repair manual you should be able to find the color code for the wire that is that ground.

but it really sounds like a grounding issue not a guage issue.

The three sections of the gauges assemble one over the other through the back of the cluster. The ground is made through physical contact and often just needs a loosening and retightening of the screws. The actual ground is carried through the gauges to the harness that plus in. I have seen the trace burned on the final printed circuit to the plug. I have seen separate ground wires applied under the assembly screws.

How would I remove the cluster- 83 300sd ?
