Water from under glovebox
I searched the archives and haven't been able to find a solution for my water problem.
I am having large quantities of H2O enter the cabin of my '84 300D turbo after starting the engine following a rain. I checked the drain under the hood spring as well as the any holes in the firewall. All looked AOK. It appears as though the water is collecting somewhere. I suspect it is the circular device under the glovebox that has something to do with my cabin heater. I noticed that a couple of screws were loose, so I tightened them. I thought the problem was solved when it survived one storm, but now it's back to where it was before. I am also having a major condensation problem that my defogger has a hell of a time trying to fight during rain storms. My AC doesn't work. I'm pretty sure all of these are connected. My questions are: - What is this device? - Should it have water in it? - How do I fix the leak? - Are these problems connected? |

Just a guess but could your AC condensate lines be stopped up?
I have a Porsche that did this to me. When I turned on the blower, it blew water out of the dash vents.

Thanks for the shot... I will have to get in there and check it out. Any hints from any one on checking these lines?

Whenever I did it, I would raise car and safely support it. Then get under it with a piece of coat hanger wire or weed eater string and gently poke back up through the holes with whatever implement you are using. There are several tubes. If you use a coat hanger wire, round the end so you don't poke holes in anything.

on my car (w124 1988) there is a Rain water drain ( it can be clogged) in the engine compartiment?
I would not recommend to use metallic sharp to make it free( it will make a hole and will leake for ever) squeezing- it with hand may be sufficient.

I've always used a metal rod. Just don't be ham fisted about it.
