Shimmy?

I usually drive local. And the other day had to go on the highway. I have a 85 300sd just for reference.
Everytime I went slightly over 60mph, I feel a slight shake.shimmy in the front end. Needless to say, I stayed under 60 the whole time, which was aggrivating, cause the speed limit was 65.

I have brand new tires, just spun balanced, and checked all the front end parts, everything is fine. Any ideas?....I am lost.....

Try rotating the tires front to back. If it goes away, you may have a bad tire.

Tony
If you have a w124 and this may apply to other MB's with age or exposure the lower front ball joints can seize and cause this same shimmy. I had one and went through several wheel balancing experiences and an alignment, until I read up on this, changed the ball joints, and she rides beautifully.

Cheers

Here's

Here's a photo of my car. Is this a 126?

Sorry for the dumbness!

I did pick it up for 800 bucks, with 275,000 miles on it. But wow, so far, it has been a great car!

Still have lots to do to it, I need to make it look better, wheels or something!

A 85 300sd is a W126. This link may help with the whole model #/ chassis #/ engine # thing:

A 126 is very similar to the 124 (300D/E Class 86-95) in the suspension. I Think this also has lower ball joints, pretty easy to see. Another telltale sign of their failure is squeeking when going over dips or when turning.
