Adding heated seats to 94 e320 (w124)
Has anyone ever added heated seats to a car that wasn't equipped with them stock??
I know that bergwerks offered a kit to do this, however, they are out of business. Another site that offers seat heating elements is www.heaterseats.com they supply (or claim to supply) the heating element for a long list of cars including Mercedes. They offer a kit which includes the heating elements (dual temp) and switches for 2 seats at a semi-reasonable price around $200 - $250. My question is, would it be possible to use stock heated seat switches from a different E320? Looking at the wiring diagram it appears not, since the switches are not a simple on/off but rather connect to the Front Heated Seat control module. I would also consider buying the heated seat elements, control module, and switches out of a wrecked 124 (or 201 if so equipped) if I could locate one at a reasonable price (again around 200 - 300 shipped). I obviously don't need the seats or the seat covers, just the wiring, switches, and elements. Any ideas, thoughts, or concerns? Does anyone have any experience with heaterseats.com and the quality of their heated elements?? Thanks! |
it sounds
like a lot of work. personally i prob would try to buy seats with the heat in them. then splicing it into the wiring harness might be tricky too. electrical is my weak point.

Is there anything preventing you from installing a kit from eBay...they have some nice sets that friends of mine have installed w/little difficulty and the elements were quite effective. You would have to router the console for switches or you could place them on the sides of the seat. Its only a few wires for install, one of which is a 12v connection so you could splice it into the harness. My w124 came with the heated seats so I have no clue about installing it. Just thought maybe eBay was a good idea for a moderate price but I'm sure this option was already considered as I believe it is fairly obvious.
If that isn't feasible, I would definately look for seats with the elements already installed and selling off your seats or keeping them as extras, since taking off the upholstery and wiring in the the elements would be a pain. Best of luck |
I did see those elements on ebay and was considering them as well. As I said in my first post, I really don't like how the switches look with these kits and would like to retain a stock look if possible. I guess I'll give Pat at PGA a call and see if he has any heated seats/wiring stuff in stock.
Anybody else know of a place that would have this kind of stuff? |
Regarding the switches, you could always check out an electronics supply shop for rocker switches you find attractive...that would control the elements in whatever variation you choose. You could then wire them in place of the stock switches. I've seen a few that are hi/off/low with an led on them around. the stock switches are rectangular and shouldn't be hard to find if that's what's stopping you...best of luck

Good idea about different switches.
