Window off track

Has this happened to anyone else?
Mecedes S320, 1999
I can here the motor but the window isnt coming up
this is the rear driver side
front passenger and rear passenger just stopped working a while ago also
It almost seems like the car has a virus and is gradually falling apart
Its only a 99, I thought these cars lasted for ever.
is it Camry time?

Hate to break this to you, but it is probably not as simple as being off track. The lift unit has a plastic wheel around which the cable winds for lifting/lowering the window. It often fails, and it probably can not be repaired, only replaced. The replacement is fairly simple if you have the right tools, you will have to drill out the rivets that secure the mechanism (I believe there are four of them) remove and replace the lift unit, then rivet back in place. The rivets should be 1/4" and that is pretty hefty for most hand riveters, you will need a long-handled hand riveter or a pneumatic tool to do the job.

Best of luck,
g

Hi Mutual Funds,

If you are truly happy with your screenname, you should be able to afford to have that little job contracted out.

If the car has been apart for work in that door before, somone may have not tightened the
motor properly or it may have a broken gear in the gearbox of the PW unit..
Hopefully someone else will know if DIY is worth the effort.
The door could be apart for a few days until you figure out what is needed and get the parts.

(A little aside....
In the next few months, everyone should be very careful about buying a used car. If it is too good a deal it may have come from the Lousianna area. Electrical problems are sure to arise if it were submerged.)

Good hunting.

I have a 93 400sel with the same problem, the window goes down but won't come back up, but you can hear the motor running. I was able to pull up on the window by hand while jogging the window switch to get it to close inch by inch.
There is a small cable in the lifting mechanism that came off of a pulley, you have to take the door panel appart and put the cable back on the pulley to fix it.
