1994 model year recall

I just read in the paper that there is a new recall on 1994-2002 ford products and that Ford will be spending millions on one of the biggest recalls in history. Its hard to believe an American manufacturer that sells entry level to moderately priced vehicles cares enough about its owners to fix their cars for them. To all those out there who say that people who complain about the wire harness are just beating a dead horse, I say this is a good reason to fight. I think owners should flood local dealers with complaints (sorry in advance to all those friendly techs that work at the dealerships), file a complaint with the national highway transportation board, the Center for Auto safety at autosafety.org, as well as writing a letter to Paul Halata, MB president and C.E.O. at 3 Paragon Drive, Montvale, N.J. 07645. If Ford can fix a problem on a 12 year old car so can Mercedes Benz!

In all likelyhood what Ford really "cares" about is that the engine fires in question not lead to wrongful death lawsuits. Also, recalls on relatively inexpensive items can lead to substantial service revenue from cars they wouldn't otherwise have in the service bay. Recalls can be profitable - but not likely on a thousand dollar wiring harness.

The wiring harness we're plagued with came to my mind as well when I read about the Ford recall. What also came to my mind is that it took over 600 complaints and three deaths before Ford was prompted into action. I'm sure there are many fires that resulted - I remember seing one on the news a couple of months ago.

My point is that I don't think we ever have a chance with the wiring harness issue. Nobody has died and nobody has yet had a devastating fire from this problem.

One word....Pinto.

Ford most likely doesn't want a repeat of that.

brilliant but its to be expected nowadays...my first car was an 89 crown vic ltd...ahh white with blue velour and that half vinyl top...fast as hell and it handled pretty well...and it was definately a tank that I drove into the ground...have since become a mopar and MB guy...mopar b/c i was fortunate enough to own a lebaron, sebring conv and a 300m all of which gave me absolutely no problems...of course with all the problems ford has had...i'd still take a one over a gm anyday...possibly b/c im a bbq fan... :cool:
