Would an engine from a 260 work on a 300TE of the same year '89?
I have an '89 260e that I keep for spare parts for a 300TE of the same year. I was wondering before I do the work, are there any differences between the two that would give me problems. I'd hate to do all the work for nothing.

yes i would think
that it would be a straight interchange with few differences. i think that the 2.6 might have a lower axle ratio to compensate for lack of torque, so if you keep the standard gears in the 300 you should get better mileage but will give up noticable grunt on take off.
if it bothers you, you have the 2.6 to change it out with. btw my book is a little fuzzy on this so i would verify the axle ratios before making a final decision on it. tom w. |
The hydraulic pump for the SLS is on the PS pump on that car, so yes, it should drop right in. Most parts will be completely interchangeable unless different between the wagon and the sedan.
You already have the lower rear end, as I'm sure you have noticed. The tranny will exchange, but the wagon normally starts off in 2nd. Peter |
