1995 e320 TBA removal

I need help. so far I removed the air intake crossover and the plastic box with flap similar to the one in the throttle body. I can't figure out how to remove the vertical breathing tube that sits on top of the tba. I loosened the ring clamp but the tube won't lift loose. once I get that tube off, is it only the 4 hex bolts that hold the tba in place? Is it diificult to disconnect the throttle linkage?
background is I just bought the car a few weeks ago and it has the classic high idle. fault code is 6 (idle speed control inoperative). The wires from the connector to the tba have more band aids on them then a NFL player on a monday morning. once I get it out, is it possible to open the tba and fix any broken wires inside?

You can repair the wires inside, take a look at this site, a lot of work, but if you want to save the money. On the 320 I think you will have to remove the upper portion (black Plastic) of the intake manifold. Good Luck.

I already removed the cross over black plastic part that connects to the intake manifold. the next part that is connected to the throttle body actuator is a vertical rubber tube. I loosened the ring clamp but it won't slideoff the tba. I guess I have to release the ring clamp more.
regarding the wiring, the site you gave is great. I'm reading it and all the links - great education.

Can you twist it, will it turn? I have not had mine off in my 320, but it seems that you have all the compnents removed, so the next thing would be to twist it or rock it back and forth as it could be stuck to the rubber in the seal around it. Good luck!

It turns but doesn't lift. tough/tight spot to get anything under it to pry it up.

Loosen the ring clamp some more. I believe there's a large lip that it mounts over. I ruined mine when I took it off for repair work.

ok, I got the tube off and I got the throttle body actuator off. gave it a cleaning, noticed the wires are shredded in many places and have electrical tape band aids all over the place. no doubt this unit needs to be re-wired, not something I want to tackle. so I checked around a little and found that would cost around $400 (some shops call this "rebuilding" but this is only re-wiring. true rebuild would include the clutch.) fully rebuilt unit is around $1325 retail from beckmann, less if you have a indy shop to get it for you. BBA in UK sells rebuilt units for 425 pounds (around $805) but I havent called them to find out if it is fully rebuilt or just rewired.
so here's the problem - how do I determine this will fix the problem. I noticed some deteriorated wires on the wiring harness. I need true diagnostic proof. is there such a thing?

by the way, is there supposed to be a gasket between the tba and the intake manifold it sits on?
