Forming Teclan tubing

Some previous owner of the 1984 190E 2.3 I am working on "repaired" the failed oil pressure gauge by cutting the black Teclan tubing at the oil filter housing and plugging the hole. The end result was no oil leaking inside the instrument cluster, but no oil pressure indication. I have transplanted another gauge into the cluster and am trying to put things back together. The black Teclan tubing appears to be like heat-shrink stuff and was formed over the barbed fitting that goes into the base of the oil filter housing. I have heated the tubing with a hair dryer, but the tubing is nowhere near flexible enough to go over the barbed fitting. Anyone have suggestions on how to work with this stuff? Thanks! John
