alternator? regulator? short?
 

All the idiot lights came on the dash in my 88 300e, the battery light abs and so on. No other issues with any other lights dimming or flickering. I did some research on the site and tested my alternator. Battery w/out the car running gave out 12.56 with the car at idle and warm it registered 14.27, From what I've read and if I read it right those are ok numbers. When I run the rpm's up to about 2000 the lights go out.

Any help would be appreciated.

mine was recently exhibiting the same behaviour. mostly at night when i came to a stop the lights would go on, dimly.

took it to my mechanic. he found the alternator to be charging properly but the voltage regulator was faulty. he replaced said part, happy motoring since.

the last time this happened to me it was a broken belt...
but it is a symptom of your alternator not working so if
you do not have a broken belt..or loose belt or sliding or slipping
up and down alternator... if none of these are your problem then
replace the brush holder/regulator in the back of the alternator..

and if you find this to be expensive just soldier in some new brushes..

you should always carry a spare of these in the dash...

so What happened?

I just got the regulator and will change it out on Sunday weather permitting. I still drive the car daily and so far so good.

Installed the voltage regulator and that solved the problem. Brushes were worn down.
