W210 Door Seal Service Campaign
 

I did a search for "Door Seal Service Campaign" and "2005030005" and didn't get any hits. I have a '98 E320 4Matic Wagon.

Anybody have any information about this service campaign? Supposedly it's to help "fix" or at least prevent rust from forming on the doors at the beltline trim just below the window (at least that's my understanding). In particular, I'm looking to see whether my vehicle is involved.

If you take your car to the dealer, they can look up your VIN to see if it has ben done or not.

If not, they will gladly do the recall for you as they are getting paid to do it by Daimler Chrysler.

When I took my 2000 E430 in for the harmonic balancer recall, they told me about the door sealant recall, and performed it for me.

Mine is a '99 and it was done earlier this year by the dealer during FSS.
Recall campaign number is 04-0911

Like stated before, just go to the dealer and they will inform you if you need to have it performed.

If and when you get your "door seal service" you will probably be disappointed. They just smear some sealant along the top edge of the door seals. Some sealant will leak out and make a mess. Not much of a recall if you ask me.

Thanks for the responses; the reason I was trying to gather info is 'cause I had to convince my dealership that I needed a harmonic balancer. I gave them my VIN and they said my car didn't need the HB replaced until I gave them the part # off the HB then they said "OK bring it in". I think they may be trying to pull the same stunt with the door seals.

I thought they actually replaced the seals... :( Does anyone have a .pdf of the TSB or sevice campaign letter?

No they don't replace the seal. They just move the seal back and apply wax behind the seal and SHOULD wipe the excessive wax off after they are done. Thats the plan atleast. You are right, not really much of a campaign, but I guess the engineers decided that this would fix a problem.

I just saw this being done at a local dealership. The idea is to keep water from trickling behind the door frame seal and down into the door including the door locks/alarm switches.

It seems the problem occurs especially when blasting the door/window areas with high pressure washers. Also in extemely wet environments over a long period of time.

Yes, the tech simply pulls back the upper door seals and applies a specific sealant, then is supposed to wipe away the excess. If done well, you shouldn't be able to see it easily.
