Once in a while (I'd say every couple of weeks or so) the airbag light stays on. It seems rather inconsistent and tempermental, but doesn't seem to affect anything else in the car. Any ideas what could be causing it? Faulty connection or sensor? Flux capacitor out of whack at 88mph? Out of phase with the lunar cycle?
thanks in advance, Dr. Julio Fuentes, BS MD PhD

This light keeps coming intermittently as you mention, but I believe more frequently, on my 300E. Took it to the dealer who said they fixed it, and by the time I get home, it is on again. Took it back, only to develoope the same scenario.
Took it to my mechanic here in town, and he said it was the SRS bushings in the steering wheel not making continuous contact. A cheap repair that took very little time to troubleshoot and repair. One more reason to not have a dealership ever touch one of my cars. They are also not owning up to the repair bill...sigh! Maybe this will shed some light, Brian W. |

I had the same problem with my '93 400E under warranty. The dealer replaced the slip rings and no problems since.

Wow, thanks for the info, guys. Any idea as to what the rough labor costs are for fixing this problem?
Muchas Gracias, -Doc

I am at my office, without the receipts in front of me, so I am shooting from the hip, but I believe the parts were under $50 for everything, and am thinking they were more like $20, and labor was about $40-45.
Again, just from memory, but this sounds about right. Hope you get it resolved, it could mean your SRS wouldn't work in certain steering wheel positions. Take care, Brian W. |
