380SEL I intend to remove the rubber mount fitted between the diff and the
body to check the rubber.
Before I start disassembling is there any special jacking procedure etc to
take the tension off. I am worried that the rear springs could come into play
and need to be clamped or something
Help please.

You are correct. The springs do come into play and you need to follow carefully:

1) Jack up the rear of the vehicle via the differential.

2) Block the body under the rear jacking points (with suitable jackstands) and lower the vehicle onto the jackstands.

3) Raise the jack underneath the diff and make contact with the diff to take the load off the rear differential mount.

4) Unbolt the mount from the body by removing the four attachment screws.

5) Unbolt the mount from the subframe by removing the two large cap screws that face the rear of the vehicle. Lower the jack slightly to allow the upper screw to clear the stabilizer bar........it will make your life a lot easier.

Here is a photo of a brand new mount sitting next to a 19 year old mount.
