Fan Belt on 95 E320

I am trying to install a new fan belt on my 1995 E 320 (M104) I have the mercedes bible and the nut they say to losen 1/2 turn for the tensioner is not there. I do not see any place for it. Got any ideas???

If the tensioner is what I'm thinking of it's at about the 7 o'clock position of the power steering pulley, an inch or so towards the rear. It takes a 17 or 19mm socket.

There is nothing there! I have searched the entire area. There is nothing to put a socket on. Could I have a late 95 with a 96 tensioner? I am lost on this one. I can't find anything broken off, got any other ideas. I will go back and look where you said sixto jsut incase I missed something.

Thanks

My bad. Quoting M103 procedures for an M104. The tensioner pulley is directly below the water pump pulley. Pry off the plastic cap at the center of the tensioner pulley to expose the nut or bolt to loosen.

Woah, the above procedure is for a tensioner with a pointer. If you have an automatic tensioner (hey, MB, why so late?), the tensioner pulley will have an exposed bolt head. Turning the bolt clockwise will relieve belt tension. Modern GM and Chrysler V6s have this type of belt tensioner.

The easiet way to tell AFAIK is if the bolt is recessed in the pulley it's the pointer type, if the bolt is in front of the pulley such that you can get a flat box wrench on it it's the automatic type.

Sixto!!!!!!!! You were right on the money, I was just afraid to pull on it too hard and break it. Now the belt is off and we are in the right direction....

Can't thank you enough.

Brian
