W202 (C220) Longevity
I just recently returned from a 2000 mile road trip in my '96 C220 (one of many trips similar to it in the past) and it performed flawlessly with impressive gas mileage (average 34 mpg). This car now has over 112,000 miles on the clock, and like the Energizer Bunny, just seems to keep going and going. I am just curious to know what the longevity of these 4 cyl engines is, and what are the higher end mileages are out there on the C220's.???

I have seen reports ( on some german W 202 forums ) of 250 k miles on these engines. ;)
Treat it well, as you should any engine, & it will probably reward you with similar results. |
I know a few Canadians with over 400,000kms on their C220's and the M111 engines are still strong. A trans freshen, suspension fixes, and regular maintainance seems to keep them going nearly forever...

Mine was built in Dec 93, 155,000 kms, so far so good.
I hope I'll be able to squeeze another 150 out of her. |
As long you don't have a engine harness problem your car will drive well for longer time, if your harness fail which is common on this model, you'll get all kind of error codes and erratic operation of the engine including total loss of power. The replacement of the engine harness $600.00 and the throttle control valve ( $480.00) will take care of the problem.
