Help! 94 e320 wagon accumulators access
I have been going through the posts and diagnosed the problem as replacement of the accumulators. Good so far but on the passenger side I don't have access to the 11mm fitting on the accumulator.I tried every angle but it looks like I have to drop the half shaft to get to it. What special allen socket would I need to take the half shaft down? If that is the right procedure!
thanks, Tom |
Are you talking about the 11mm hydraullic-fitting ? Spray it down with KROIL/PB Blaster, or sometype of penetrating oil.
You don't need to drop the half-axles. What you need to do is lightly compress the appropriate control arm to gain access, since when jacked-up, the control arms are hanging-down. A floor jack w/jack-pad placed under the control arm at the strut mount works for me. :-) neil PS: relieve the pressure of the hydraullic system, otherwise oil will spray EVERYWHERE. |
I agree with "ke6dcj", you should not have to remove the axle.
It's been years since I replaced the accumlators on our '95 wagon, but I know I did not remove the axles. I put the back of the car on ramps and replaced them w/o incident other than a significant dowsing in hydraulic fluid. It is very helpful to start threading the hydraulic lines into the accumulators prior to bolting them to the frame. |

You must remove those accumulators from INSIDE of that car! REMOVE carpet & trim.

Jacking the trailing Arm up
Thanks for the help, once I jacked the trailing arm up I got full access.
