Coolant Leak down right side of transmission
 

On 1990E I have coolant leak coming down right side of the transmission. It appears to be coming from a plastic drain pipe that is flattened at the drainage end. I suspect something is leaking on the passenger side of the firewall... radiator for heater or whatever else might be in there.

Can someone tell how to access the area that I want to look at? Must I pull the console and go in behind the radio and heat controls? I suspect this may be a common problem with the 190 because the car has had no events to cause such a leak.

Is it leaking inside or outside the passenger compartment? This weekend I was changing my tranny fluid and noticed coolant dripping off the tranny pan, turned out it was a leaking heater valve, access is by removing the plastic vent below the wind screen. The coolant was running down the firewall before dripping onto the transmission. If it is leaking inside the car i would guess heater core. Maybe someone with more experience will chip in but thats where I would look first.

Same here. I noticed it dripping from transmission pan. The leak is only outside the car... probably originating from the area where you say the heater valve is located. Can I take that cover off without having to disasemble the wiper?

You don't need to disturb the wiper, just remove the screws along the hood edge and the whole piece will pull out, the heater valve and hoses are on the passenger side. Hopefully it's the valve or a hose leaking, cheap fix.
