103 pesky oil leak
hey guys, I recently did the head gasket and seals on a 88 300e. the engine is leaking but not from the right rear head gasket. it leaks down and drips off where the engine meets the trans(bellhousing). if I fill it up to the max mark on the dipstick, it will be at the halfway point between min and max by the end of the week. this is also leaving nice spots on my driveway. any ideas. it is definitely isolated to the passenger side of the vehicle as I can see it coming around the trans.

From what you write, it sounds like the rear main seal. I seem to have this problem too.

hey
turns out the oil leaking out was from the valve cover on the right rear of the engine. the real leakage is transmission fluid coming from the bellhousing. it is leaking quite a bit and I'm afraid to take out the trans. anybody brave this task as of yet? without a lift?

oh
whats also weird is that I used tracer dye and a ultraviolet light to find the engine oil leak and I see with the light that the whole headgasket glows where it shows from between the head and block. I'm hoping this is a natural glow and not from the ultraviolet motor oil. its not leaking, just glowing green all the way around the block.

If you are seeing a green glow, it sounds like you have a serious radiation leak. I wouldn't drive that car without wearing a dosimetter at all times, and I'd have it checked weekly for radiation levels. Also if you don't report this to the NRC, I will be forced to.:)
