How Theft Resistant are the 123, 201, 124 models?
Any ideas?
I know the ignition barrel is made of the same stuff as superman's stomach and can't be drilled, but how easy is it to get in (without breaking a window) to these models, and to start and drive off, assuming we ignore the factory alarm system? Probably hard for the casual thief, but what about to professionals? I'm specifically asking because I'm wondering whether or not to fit security to my 16v - it's a desirable car in the UK and ones in mine's condition are rare. If they can't drive it away then I'm happy, as they'd have to tow it or steal the keys, and there's no way I could hope to stop that. Russell |
I have a friend who has worked as a repo man for a number of years. He says most everything is easily circumvented as long as the theif has the right tools. The only thing that stops him is an inhibitor chip.

The W201 is an easy vehicle to steal. Entry thru the rear door fixed window and lifting the door lock. That opens up the trunk to the intruder. The ignition switch on the non-alarm units can be forced with the proper blade extension and a good ratchet.
