Its not as bad as it looks, right? (All Finished!)
1 Attachment(s)
My friend had a little fender bender on the beltway last week. I'm going to get it mobile again then its off to a body shop.
Anyone know of a relatively inexpensive body shop in Maryland. Only need it for the body work, no paint. |
good luck
on getting it drivable. it looks like there is a high prob of rad damage. i am not sure what year it is but it could easily be totalled. that is a lot of damage.

Is that a W124 coupe? If so, what a shame...
|
Sorry to tell you it's always worse than it looks and that looks bad.
Junkyard parts??? |
hehe!!! can get totalled!!! Need repainted the whole front parts, replace hood, right fender, rad rack, radiator, right headlight (may be left headlight as well, condense, both Aux fans........
|
I would guess that he's looking at $4-5000 of damage at a decent body shop. What's the book value of the car? Maybe it can be fixed for less with used parts?
|
dunno
but i think you are pretty close on the estimate. wouldnt surprise if it is more. so it may not be totalled.

Got all the parts needed today, $200 total. No damage to the frame, the inner wheel well is able to be salvaged. Will have to get rad support and right headlamp frame from dealer new.
add to the list fan clutch and distributor cap, both were hit. aux fan is fine. going to upgrade to euro lights when it goes back together. should be driveable next weekend with new hood and fender on. |
I'm somewhat familure with bodywork but what on earth is "RAD" work?
|
good question, i have no idea.
$230 more today, got a new distributor cap ($65), right headlamp frame ($55)and upper radiator support ($100) sheet metal pieces. At least now I can move the car under its own power ;) |
rad
= radiator. sorry.

Crashed 124 Coupe
$230??
After my '95 C280 kissed the corner of a Ford Ranger a few years back, and it wasn't as bad as this one, the bill came to $8500. And the damage was visually about the same. Of course my car was Garnet Red metallic and the finished repair was undetectable. New hood, grille & right front fender with all lights plus the front half of the fender well. No AC or radiator damage. No bumper damage. There was a question of whether the body was twisted but the frame rack proved it OK. |
well
that is what he has spent so far on parts. when he gets into it it will be interesting how it shakes out.

the finished product...
http://www.angelfire.com/al3/alfie/gtg/johnhefsf.JPG just kidding add to the list the bracket for the idler pulley and the fan pulley, its bent all to hell. Car runs good again, even better with its new cap and rotor ;) He lucked out on the welding, all it's going to cost him is a case of bass... so far still supposed to be done tomorrow. All the used parts are going on tomorrow. |
