need help with timing m119

Hello forum members. I hope someone can help me. I just bought 1992 500sel with bad engine thats what previous owner said. It turned out that distributor cap broke, rotor came off camshaft and timing chain top and left inner top guides broke. I replaced guides, cap ,rotor and set timing according to chilton manual. Camshaft was at 45 mark with cylinder 1 and camshafts were set that I can insert pins through openings in camshaft gears. Car started, oil pressure strong, no knoking, no other noises, no back fire, cold start works. But car vibrates, idle is not steady and it feels like its hard for engine to rev to higher rpms. Vibration gets worse at around 2000rpm. I rechecked timing, set right intake caqmshaft 1 tooth clockwise because it looked like intake valves were stil open while cylinder going up. It improved vibration a lot and engine reved just right. But after 30 seconds if you press on gas nothing happens. Im very confused right now. How do I set timing right? How does crankshaft pulley have to look with what mark? How pins have to be inserted? Please can someone give me detailed instructions on setting timing right? Please :(
Thank you
Victor

Read this article by Steve Brotherton. It is about M104, but might help. See about retarded positions of the intake camshaft.

Thnak you for reply. It really helped a lot. Got my car started. Not new problem. Car has vibration at around 1500-2000rpms and poor idle. Sometimes it jumps idle so low that it about to stall. Any ideas? Thanks
