Hi all,
I struck a curb with the driver side front and rear tire. This curb happened to be very high and sharp, and the wagon was fully loaded. I punched a hole in my oil pan, tweaked the frame on both sides, turned a rock knick on the windshield into a bonafide crack, ruined the front custom wheel, blew out both front and rear tires, cracked the upper shock support, bent the tie rod, knocked the rear wheel way out of alignment, bent the lower part of the fender inward, and twisted the front control arm mounts. Plus other minor things associated.
A couple of things. After the frame straightener had a solid go at getting the front end back to spec, they had the front and rear ends aligned. The alignment shop said that one particular alignment is non adjustable, and that to correct it, I need to replace my front springs. Makes sense to me as the springs are 15 years old. Something to keep in mind for you older owners who are seeing some wear on the inside track.
The windshield had two small rock knicks. They were very minor, and were not bullet type...just knicks. The impact from hitting the curb caused one of those knicks to crack about 12 inches up, and about 18 across the shield. The windshield guy came out to replace the shield ($150 total for a new, and installed on location) and he told me that he could have fixed the knicks, and that it would have prevented the cracking. I dont know...but for $150...that new windshield is awful purty. Anybody in the So Cal area, I can give you a reference. This guy was referred to me..and he is very good.
