DIY Rotor/pads/bearings 560Sl
Car off road until Spring and though I would tackle these replacements. Is this a feasable project for a novice ? Any special tools needed ? Any tips? Any detailed manuals/ cd's available for this type of project?

On the 560, you don't HAVE to fool with the bearings to take the rotors off. The hats just come right off the front. Not really any harder to do than a Chevy or Ford. You do need a good hex socket set (lisle's is good and inexpensive) and a torque wrench, and some way to bleed the system.
The back is a little trickier, because you have to back off the parking brake shoes a bit to get the LH side off. Even then, the disks tend to get stuck to the axle and there is some significant pounding and swearing involved. |
Except for the possibility of things getting rusted into place, it is a relatively straightforward job. A couple of hex keys and wrench (don't remember the sizes off the top of my head) will cover the job for pads and rotors. You can order the parts from fastlane at the top of the page for a good price. Don't forgot to get the anti-squeel paste.
