ADS light - SL600
 

I did a search, and found similar problems, but no answers....

The car is a 94 SL600, 32k miles, mostly perfect.

Yesterday, a rack of shelves fell on the right side of the car (ouch!), luckily doing only minor body damage.

However, upon starting the car, the ADS lamp (on the dash) came on. It goes off whenever I restart the car, but comes on again after a few feet of driving (maybe as soon as I turn the wheel?). There doesn't seem to be any change in the ride - not firmer or softer.

Any thoughts? I can't imagine how the rack falling on the side caused this, but it never happened before...

It's probably just a coincidence that the ADS light is coming on after the shelf incident. I had the same problem with my S600 a couple years ago. When the interior of the car was warm, as soon as I turned the steering wheel the ADS light came on. It was a faulty steering angle sensor. Replacing that fixed the problem. You really should have the fault codes pulled from the car to see what they tell you. Here's a link to my website that describes ADS...
